Two teams, one mission.

Fivestars changes to SumUp Loyalty

Germany-based payments company, SumUp acquires Fivestars to adopt our loyalty experience across their global product suite.

Soon to face a whole new set of marketing challenges

Fivestars rebrand

Fivestars’ product suite was moving away from its minimalist line art style to a modern surrealist illustration style. Moving over to SumUp’s global brand strategy mid-rebrand required some clever and economical design solutions.

SumUp rebrand

SumUp was also in the middle of a rebrand, moving towards minimal shapes, colors, and textures. Between Fivestars and SumUp we had 2 consumer mobile apps, 2 merchant and consumer-facing payment apps, 1 loyalty-only app, and 2 marketing websites to rebrand and consolidate.

Cost-efficient, short-term rebrand strategy toward a unified global brand

With limited marketing resources, Fivestars by SumUp designers were challenged to find the most efficient way to move towards a SumUp Loyalty rebrand without over-indexing on an evolving SumUp brand identity.

We prioritized a narrow set of UI and illustration style changes on the Fivestars marketing website that would have the greatest visual impact. There were many trade-offs that we made. For example, larger typography changes were deprioritized so that we could focus on rebranding our product suite and migrating Fivestars’ marketing content over to the SumUp marketing website.

Targeting specific merchant demographics through individual landing pages and powerful SEO

Our merchant POS needs are hyperspecific to their business. A salon owner performs different daily tasks than a coffee shop owner.

As Fivestars by SumUp migrates over to Sumup.com, we are developing merchant landing pages with dynamic modular components that will highlight POS features based on the merchant type and their individual needs. We are also enriching our landing pages with keywords and stories that resonate with our merchant owners.

SumUp Loyalty revenue calculator is based on industry and average ticket size developed by our sales and marketing team. We can pre-populate the input fields so merchants do not have to enter any information before seeing an attractive revenue number.
